I was reading about leadership where I came across different leadership styles. I got to know the nomenclature for leaders I worked with and the kind of leadership style I am following.

๐——๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐˜๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ ๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€ are the one who provide clear direction and instructions for execution. This style is particularly effective when leading teams that are new to the domain.

Then there are ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ต ๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€ who ask the right questions to you, make you think harder. Instead of giving directions they help you find the way through questions. This approach is beneficial for teams that are beginning to take ownership of their decisions.

๐—ฆ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜ƒ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜ ๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€ are who don’t interfere much with the team, they just remove blockers, give clarity and let the team do their best. This style works well for teams that are already functioning independently.

It doesn’t mean senior teams never need directive leadership. There may be some situation where the leader needs to take a call in some high risk decision and instruct the team to follow.

In short, leadership style should be chosen based on team maturity and context, not your personal preference.
